On November 28, 2020, the “Founding Ceremony of the Medical Mathematics Professional Committee of Chinese Mathematical Society" was held at Peking University. Thousands of experts and scholars from different fields such as mathematics, biology and medicine attended the meeting both online and offline.

　　Mathematics plays a vital role in medical diagnostics, clinical medicine and epidemiology. Strengthening mathematical research in the medical field is of great help to the development of medical and biomedical statistics including diagnostics, clinical medicine and epidemiology. With the rapid development of the Internet, artificial intelligence and cloud computing technology, with the arrival of the era of precision medicine and medical big data, and with the increasingly widespread application and practice of data science and artificial intelligence in medicine, medical research and application have embraced unprecedented challenges and opportunities. The 3rd meeting of the 13th Executive Council of Chinese Mathematical Society (CMS) agreed to set up the medical mathematics professional committee, CMS’s 11th professional committee since its establishment in 1935.

　　Academician Tian Gang, chairman of CMS and director of Beijing International Mathematics Research Center, academician Zhan Qimin, executive vice president of Peking University and president of Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC), academician Jiang song, director of Mathematical Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, academician Zhang Jiping, director of China-Russia Mathematics Center and deputy director of Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research, academician Ma Zhiming, honorary chairman of Medical Mathematics Committee, and Chen Dayue, dean of School of Mathematical Sciences of Peking University, delivered speeches respectively.

　　Zhou Xiaohua, chairman of the first Medical Mathematics Professional Committee, winner of the National High-level Talent Program and professor of Peking University, said in his speech that, in the future, the society will continue to strengthen its internal construction, build a service platform for medical public health data and a cooperation and sharing platform for medical mathematics, actively carry out various forms of academic exchanges, strengthen the cooperation among "production, learning, research and application", provide free professional consulting services in medicine, public health, mathematics and other aspects, strive to build a leading brand of big data application for medical public health, and cultivate a group of interdisciplinary talents of medical mathematics.

　　Following the founding ceremony, the First Medical Mathematics Forum was held. Experts and scholars in related research fields reported and conducted academic exchanges on the cross-disciplinary application of medicine and mathematics in various fields including epidemiology, medical imaging, precision medicine, cancer diagnosis and treatment, and biomedical engineering.
