Peking University holds international video conference on sleep research

Peking University, April 24, 2020: Peking University Sleep Research Center (PKUSRC) held a three-hour international webinar on April 12, sharing progress on integrating sleep research into the containment of COVID-19 pandemic. Experts from several world-renowned institutions attended.

Professor Han Fang, secretary-general of the World Sleep Society (WSS) and director of PKUSRC, noted that this webinar aimed at exploring proper telemedical models with counterparts from around the world to treat non-COVID-19 diseases during the pandemic.

Professor Sun Jianguo from Fudan University introduced a cloud-based model that ensures effective remote treatment to patients suffered from sleeping disorders. Professor Samuel T. Kuna from University of Pennsylvania shared long-range medical strategies and management for veterans with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). His colleague, Professor Allan I. Pack, made a detailed introduction about the application of telemedicine in curing truck drivers with OSA. Professor Kingman Strohl from Case Western Reserve University introduced targeted training the university has delivered in order to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.

Against the backdrop of COVID-19 pandemic, the medical experts also discussed methods of management, data transmission and budgets. Tens of thousands of participants from over 10 countries and regions also audited this webinar.
