The 20th Anniversary of China Kadoorie Biobank Held

  On September 7, 2024, the "20th Anniversary of CKB" was grandly held in the Sunshine Hall of Peking University Yingjie Exchange Center.

  China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) is an international cooperation research project on chronic diseases jointly carried out by Peking University and the University of Oxford in the UK. It is also a large-scale population cohort research project comparable to the internationally renowned UKB. Since its launch in 2004, the project has been committed to in-depth research on various major chronic diseases affecting the health of the Chinese population, exploring their pathogenic factors, pathogenesis, epidemic laws and trends.

  

  The attending guests include Chen Zhu, president of Red Cross Society of China and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Bin, vice minister of the National Health Commission and president of Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, Zhan Qimin, president of Peking University International Cancer Institute, former executive vice president of Peking University, president of Suzhou Medical College of Soochow University, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Qiao Jie, executive vice president of Peking University, president of Peking University Health Science Center, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Sir Rory Collins, director of the Department of Population Health at the University of Oxford in the UK, general director and chief executive officer of UKB of the UK Biobank, and Ronard Li, chief project officer of the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation in China. A total of more than 200 people were present at the conference, including co-chairmen of the CKB Executive Committee, Academician Chen Junshi (Chinese side) and Sir Richard Peto (British side), Professor Li Liming, Chinese director of CKB and director of Peking University Center for Public Health and Epidemic Preparedness & Response, and Professor Chen Zhengming, British director of CKB, as well as leaders and project personnel from the centers for disease control and prevention in 10 CKB provinces (autonomous regions) and the health commissions, medical insurance/information departments, and centers for disease control and prevention in 10 CKB cities (districts).

  

  Professor Li Liming, CKB Chinese director, and Professor Chen Zhengming, CKB British director, delivered keynote reports respectively. The conference also commended more than 40 project personnel who have made significant contributions to CKB. Outstanding Contribution Awards, Special Contribution Awards, Significant Contribution Awards and 20-Year Contribution Awards were set up. Trophies and certificates were presented to relevant personnel who have provided significant help and long-term support in project design, construction, implementation and security.

  

  This conference comprehensively summarized the construction, development and achievements of CKB in the past 20 years and commended and inspired project personnel with the hope of further promoting the sustainable and high-quality development of the CKB work so as to make greater contributions to the prevention and control of chronic diseases in China and even in the world.
