PKU Sixth Hospital Professor Lu Lin Awarded “Distinguished Figure in the Overseas Chinese Community”
On the morning of August 31, 2023, the 11th National Congress of Returned Overseas Chinese and Their Relatives opened in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the state including Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang and Han Zheng attended the event and extended their congratulations. Li Xi delivered a speech on behalf of the CPC Central Committee. Nearly 1200 representatives of returned overseas Chinese and their relatives from across the country and nearly 600 overseas Chinese from more than 100 countries gathered.
Announced at the congress were the “Decision of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese (ACFROC) and the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council on Commending Outstanding Figures in the Overseas Chinese Community and Advanced Individuals of Returned Overseas Chinese Relatives”, “Decision of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the ACFROC on Commending Advanced Collectives and Advanced Workers of the National System of Overseas Chinese”, and the “Decision of the ACFROC on Commending Advanced Organizations and Advanced Individuals of National System of Overseas Chinese”. Awards were given to outstanding groups and individuals.
Lu Lin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Peking University Sixth Hospital, was awarded the “Distinguished Figure in the Overseas Chinese Community.”
Academician Lu Lin has long been engaged in the study of public health policies, pathogenesis, epidemiological characteristics, and intervention strategies in the field of psychiatry and sleep medicine. As a returned overseas Chinese, Academician Lu Lin has always been committed to promoting scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries, which has greatly improved the research level of psychiatry and sleep medicine in China, and has been elected as a member of the International Narcotics Control Board (one of the 13 members in the world). It is of great significance to improve China’s international voice and enhance its international status in related fields. He also successfully held the side meeting of the 64th United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs. With the unremitting efforts of Academician Lu Lin, China has established close ties with the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada and other countries and regions in the scientific research of mental and psychological diseases and sleep disorders and has achieved a series of outstanding results.
Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus epidemic, Academician Lu Lin has always adhered to the front line of clinical and scientific research and provided advice and suggestions for the global anti-epidemic. As a member of the World Health Organization’s expert group on novel coronavirus pneumonia, Academician Lu Lin participated in the formulation of the “Global Research Roadmap for Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia”, jointly held epidemic prevention and control exchanges with countries such as the United States and Britain, and introduced the experience and research progress of epidemic-related psychological counseling on behalf of China. He also led domestic experts to set up a psychological rescue team to guide the work of psychological counseling during the COVID-19 epidemic and the post-epidemic rehabilitation in Hubei Province.
