Seminar on Heart to Heart Cooperation - Focusing on the International Cardiovascular Frontier Held

Recently, Seminar on Heart to Heart Cooperation - Focusing on the International Cardiovascular Frontier, one of the international cutting-edge seminar series on "Building a Road to Health through Win-win Cooperation", sponsored by Peking University Molecular Cardiology Key Laboratory of Chinese Ministry of Education and the International Office of Cooperation of Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC), was held online. This seminar invited many domestically and internationally renowned scientists in the basic and clinical research of cardiovascular diseases, as well as many well-known experts and young backbone scholars in the cardiovascular field both at home and abroad. PKUHSC teachers and students listened to the seminar reports online.

Academician Dong Erdan pointed out in his speech that the seminar aimed at cardiovascular diseases, the first cause of human death, and invited experts from home and abroad to communicate and discuss about the international frontier, which was of great significance.

During the academic report session, Academician Ge Junbo systematically introduced the history and development of the total interventional technique of heart valve and looked into the development direction of its related fields. Academician Han Yaling, with her report entitled "Interpretations on the Updates of the 2022 AHA/ACC/HFSA Guidelines for the Management of Heart Failure", interpreted the updated points of the guidelines from such aspects as the staging/classification, diagnosis and prevention of heart failure, comprehensive management strategies, and management strategies in special cases. Academician Yang Baofeng shared his team's decades of systematic work in the field of ion channels and cardiovascular diseases in the report. Professor Peter Tontonoz, academician of the US. National Academy of Sciences, gave a detailed introduction to his research work recently published in the journal Nature, clarifying the new mechanism of lipid droplet formation and functional regulation, and putting forward new strategies for the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia. Peter Carmeliet, professor of the University of Leuven, academician of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, of the German Academy of Sciences, and of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering, mainly described how to intervene in the metabolism of endothelial cells to overcome the drug resistance of anti-angiogenesis therapy, and proposed a new direction of prevention and treatment of drug resistance in anti-angiogenesis therapy. Other participating professors also introduced the latest progress in the field of cardiovascular diseases and the applications of their research findings in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases from various aspects including immune regulation of cardiovascular diseases, basic and clinical discovery of endothelial progenitor cells, discovery of proteomics and disease biomarkers, and application of biomechanics and bioengineering in cardiovascular research, and so on.
