PKU Medicine’s Three Basic Science Center Projects Approved—A Record Set!
Results of the basic science center projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) were announced on September 28. Three projects of PKU Medicine were approved at the same time, accounting for 3/4 of the total projects approved by the Departments of Life Sciences and of Medical Sciences of the NSFC, which set a record in the school history. In 2022, PKU Medicine has 354 approved projects, with a total approved funding of 370 million yuan, which has doubled compared with that in last year, reaching a record high.
The “chemical reprogramming regulating cell plasticity” basic science center project approved by NSFC Department of Life Science is led by Professor Deng Hongkui from PKU School of Basic Medical Sciences and co-sponsored by Professors Tang Fuchou, Li Cheng, Mu Rong from PKU and Professor Zhu Bing from Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The project is committed to establishing methods and theories for precise regulation of cell plasticity, promoting the development and clinical application of stem cells and regenerative medicine, striving to achieve world-class original major research results, and forming a leading international frontier scientific research center.
The “study on the mechanism and intervention of instinct behavior and related mental disorders” basic science center project approved by NSFC Department of Medical Sciences is led by Academician Lu Lin from China Institute of Drug Dependence and co-sponsored by Academician Duan Shumin, Professors Hu Hailan and Li Xiaoming from Zhejiang University, and PKU Professor Shi Jie. The project aims to clarify the instinct-related circuits and the mutual regulation mechanism between instinctive behaviors, to systematically elucidate the common neural circuit basis and regulation mechanism of these instinctive behavior abnormalities leading to diseases, and to establish new methods for the diagnosis, intervention, and treatment of instinctive behavior-related mental diseases.
The “female reproductive aging and fertility remodeling” basic science center project approved by NSFC Department of Medical Sciences is led by Academician Qiao Jie from PKU Third Hospital and co-sponsored by PKU Professors Li Rong and Yan Liying, Professor Wang Haibin from Xiamen University and Professor Wang Lei from Fudan University. The project focuses on “promoting long-term balanced population development” and the strategic deployment of Healthy China, with a view to providing people with a full range of full-cycle reproductive health services.
In addition to the above-mentioned three basic science center projects, also approved were nine key projects, one innovative research group project, and four national science funds for distinguished young scholars, all of which are high-funding projects.
