The 8-year program is based on the requirements of the Standards for Basic Medical Education (for Tail Implementation), and the priciple of “Integrating undergraduate and doctoral education within 8 years”, PUHSC implements the holistic educational thought, emphasizes “Promoting general education and professional education simultaneously, Cultivating political integrity and professional competence”, and aims to foster high-quality medical talents who love their motherland, are loyal to the people, have lofty ideals and social responsibility, adapt to the development needs of medicine and health care, have solid theoretical knowledge and humanistic quality, possess competitive abilities for clinical work, scientific research and innovation, good communication skills, teamwork spirit, a global view and great potential.
The valid study period is 8 years, including Premedical Stage, Biomedical Stage, Clinical Medicine Stage Iand Clinical Medicine Stage II. Besides, students can also choose to quit the program after completing the stipulated undergraduate curriculum.
After completing the 5 years’ study, a certain proportion of students can also enter, following the principle of voluntary application and selection, MD & PhD Program. Students in this program will receive education and carry out researches in basic medical sciences for 3 to 5 years, and those meeting graduation and degree granting requirements may graduate with PhD degrees. After that, they will come back to continue the education of Clinical Medicine Stage II and those passing the dissertation defense and assessment are qualified to graduate with MD degree.
